The Beijing Imperial Palace Hotel in Taipa—once home to the satellite casino Greek Mythology Casino and formerly linked to junket-tycoon Alvin Chau—is now undergoing renovation after a change of ownership, signalling a fresh chapter for the much-troubled property.

The building, originally known as the New Century Hotel and later rebranded as the Beijing Imperial Palace Hotel, had its casino shut in 2015 and the hotel closed a year later amid “serious administrative irregularities” cited by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO). According to the recent renovation permit, the project is categorised as “Repair/Maintenance” with works valid from 14 August 2025 through 31 May 2026.

The permit lists the project owner as Victory Success Holdings (a firm previously associated with the site) while the address points to the 16-floor of Treasure Island Office Building, the listed office of YOHO Group. Sources indicate YOHO Group Executive Director Mike Lam Hin Wai was involved in the earlier transfer. This follows earlier reports in which the government had moved to terminate the land lease for the roughly 15,000 m² plot and reclaim control due to extended inactivity.

The hotel’s past is rife with controversy: The Greek Mythology casino inside the property counted 24.8 % ownership by AMAX International Holdings (via Ng Man Sun) prior to its closure, and disputes over ownership and redevelopment rights have dragged on for years. With the renovation works active, scaffolding and construction elevators are visible on one side of the structure, confirming tangible progress after years of dormancy.

As the Macau gaming industry and property sector continue to evolve, especially in light of regulatory crack-downs on satellite casinos and junket links, the refurbishment of the Beijing Imperial Palace Hotel may signal a turning point for one of the city’s more notorious idle assets.
