Amid a crowded August concert season in Macau, Galaxy Entertainment Group—and particularly its flagship Galaxy Macau resort—has seen a notable lift in casino activity thanks to the popularity of Hong Kong superstar Eason Chan. Citigroup analysts George Choi and Timothy Chau reported that the average premium mass-market live-baccarat table bet in August climbed 10 percent year-on-year, reaching HKD 21,543 (approximately US $2,744).
The analysts expressed their surprise at the gains, writing, “We are pleasantly surprised,” and pointing directly to Eason Chan's six performances at the Galaxy Arena (held from August 1–3 and August 8–10) as a likely contributor to bolstered casino revenue . Normally, August is the busiest month for visitor volume in Macau but also one that tends to dilute average wagers per player due to the influx of casual tourists—so, this rebound in wager size is notable.
Beyond the uptick in wager levels, Galaxy Macau also continued its dominance in premium mass play. Citi’s August survey placed the resort with around a 34 percent share of total premium mass wagers—keeping it firmly in the lead . The surge in high-value players—or "whales" (those betting HKD 100,000 or more)—was especially striking: Galaxy Macau accounted for nine of the 32 whales observed across all Macau casinos during the month.
In sum, the combination of high-profile entertainment like Eason Chan’s concerts and strategic marketing toward upscale patrons has clearly paid off. The correlation between live events and gaming performance highlights the growing power of entertainment-plus-gaming synergies in Macau’s casino ecosystem.
