Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) has announced that its satellite venue Waldo Casino will cease operations at 11:59 pm on Friday, 31 October 2025. The casino, operated via GEG’s subsidiary Galaxy Casino Company Limited (GCSA), will see its gaming tables and electronic machines re-allocated to other GEG managed properties. Local employees will be reassigned either to gaming or non-gaming roles within the group, with the company providing vocational training to support the transition.
The closure comes amid a broader regulatory shift in Macau’s gaming landscape. Under the amended gaming law (Law 7/2022), satellite casinos — venues operated under a concessionaire’s licence but located in third-party owned premises — must either be absorbed by the concessionaire or shut by 31 December 2025. GEG’s move to shutter Waldo early aligns it with similar announcements by other concessionaires.
In the case of Waldo Casino, GEG stated the action is being taken in coordination with the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) to ensure a "smooth and compliant closure process in accordance with legal requirements." Analysts view the shift as part of a consolidation strategy: by redeploying assets from smaller satellite operations into their flagship resorts, operators may boost table yields and rationalise operations in a more tightly regulated environment.
While the move may improve operational efficiency for GEG, it raises concerns for local businesses and communities. Satellite casinos have often been located in neighbourhood districts and attracted lower-minimum-bet gaming traffic; their closure could reduce foot-traffic and impact nearby retail and hospitality operations. For the workforce at Waldo, GEG’s commitment to reassign staff and invest in training is intended to mitigate job-loss risk — but the transition remains a delicate process.
