Macau’s luxury hotels are bracing for one of their busiest Octobers yet, as more than 20 properties within casino resorts have already sold out for at least five nights during the upcoming Golden Week holiday. Running from October 1 to 8 this year, the extended holiday coincides with both China’s National Day and the Mid-Autumn Festival. Popular venues such as Wynn Palace, Grand Lisboa, Banyan Tree Macau, and The Ritz-Carlton are fully booked across the entire eight-day stretch.

Of the 34 luxury hotels surveyed across Macau’s six casino operators, 21 were fully booked for at least five nights. Even properties with limited availability are charging premium rates, with rooms on peak nights such as October 4 listed above MOP6,000 (US$750) per night before taxes. This surge reflects robust demand from mainland Chinese travelers, who see Macau as a top holiday destination given its mix of gaming, shopping, and cultural attractions.

Golden Week has historically been a bellwether for Macau’s tourism recovery. In 2024, the city welcomed over 930,000 visitors during the same period, with average daily arrivals exceeding 116,000 according to the Macao Government Tourism Office. The strong booking momentum this year suggests that visitation could surpass last year’s levels, especially as the city has expanded non-gaming offerings to attract families and younger travelers.

However, uncertainties remain. The approach of Super Typhoon Ragasa poses potential disruptions to travel in the days leading up to Golden Week. Nonetheless, industry analysts expect demand to remain strong once weather clears, reinforcing Macau’s role as Asia’s premier integrated resort hub. With luxury hotels already at capacity, this year’s Golden Week is set to provide another major boost to the city’s tourism and gaming revenue streams.
