In the aftermath of Super Typhoon Ragasa, which pummeled Macau with hurricane-force winds and severe flooding, Melco Resorts & Entertainment mobilized around 100 volunteers under its “Simple Acts of Kindness” programme to assist the local community. The storm had triggered Macau’s highest typhoon warning — Signal No.10 — and led to widespread disruptions including power outages and flooding in low-lying districts.

Melco’s volunteer teams were deployed across multiple neighbourhoods. In Macau’s Southern District, about 30 volunteers worked with the Macao Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM) to help SMEs and residents remove debris, retrieve displaced belongings, and restore clean environments. At Praia do Manduco, they partnered with the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations (UGAMM) to distribute meal boxes to the elderly and households suffering from power cuts. In Coloane and nearby areas, teams offered handyman support, cleaned up gardens at elderly centers, and aided an animal shelter by clearing fallen trees and waste.

Melco’s Chairman & CEO Lawrence Ho expressed sympathy for those affected and gratitude toward volunteers. He stated that Melco will “continue to stand by Macau’s community whenever and wherever help is needed,” reaffirming the company’s pledge to stand by Macau in times of crisis. The initiative underscores how corporate social responsibility can play a meaningful role in disaster recovery beyond relief alone. Combined with government mobilisation of civil protection forces to ensure public safety, the collective efforts reflect how both public and private actors are banding together to help Macau recover from Ragasa’s impact.
