Vietnam’s aviation and tourism scene is gearing up for a major milestone in early 2026 as Sun PhuQuoc Airways, the new carrier controlled by Vietnamese conglomerate Sun Group, prepares to launch its first international air service — a direct Taipei (Taiwan) to Phu Quoc (Vietnam) route starting 29 March 2026. This marks a major step in the airline’s expansion plan and signals growing connectivity across Asia.
Scheduled to be operated by Sun PhuQuoc Airways, this non-stop international flight reflects the airline’s broader strategy to evolve beyond domestic services and establish Phu Quoc as a key gateway for international tourism. Sun PhuQuoc Airways received the necessary Air Route Certificate from Taiwan’s Civil Aeronautics Administration in early January 2026, paving the way for ticket sales to begin and operations to launch later this year.
Phu Quoc Island — already a popular beach and resort destination known for its luxury experiences, pristine sands and growing traveler appeal — stands to benefit significantly from the new service. The direct flight is expected to reduce travel time and simplify connectivity for Taiwanese visitors, who have historically formed a strong international segment of the island’s tourism market.

To support a strong market entry and distribution in Taiwan, Sun PhuQuoc Airways has appointed Hongyi Travel Service as its General Sales Agent (GSA), leveraging the Taiwanese company’s extensive travel networks and experience. This partnership is designed to help effectively reach potential passengers and stimulate early demand for the Taipei–Phu Quoc service.
Industry watchers see the move as part of a much broader tourism growth strategy for Phu Quoc and Vietnam overall. The island’s potential as a global tourist hub is being enhanced not only by this new international flight route but also by investments in infrastructure and integrated tourism ecosystems — including resorts, entertainment and airport operations. In fact, Sun Group officially took over Phu Quoc International Airport at the start of 2026, a move that gives the conglomerate significant influence over both aviation and destination development.
Analysts note that Sun PhuQuoc Airways operates a modern, young fleet — including new Airbus A321neo aircraft — and aims to expand its network to other Asian destinations beyond Taipei. Proposed future services include planned routes to Busan (South Korea), Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong, and later to Mumbai, New Delhi, and Kaohsiung, helping to further elevate the island’s global connectivity.
The launch of the Taipei–Phu Quoc route comes at a time when international tourism demand across Asia is surging, and destinations are intensifying competition to attract foreign visitors with more direct routes, better services and unique tourism offerings. For Phu Quoc, this direct connection not only makes it more accessible but also positions it as a more attractive choice for travelers seeking tropical leisure, culture and luxury experiences without lengthy transit times.
Overall, the new Taipei–Phu Quoc route by Sun PhuQuoc Airways underscores a broader shift in travel patterns and industry ambitions — one where regional connectivity and seamless international access are key drivers of tourism growth and economic opportunity in Southeast Asia.
