This September marks the 20th anniversary of Grand Korea Leisure Co. Ltd (GKL), a milestone the company commemorated with pride. Since its inception in September 2005, GKL’s Seven Luck casinos—operated exclusively for foreign visitors—have welcomed approximately 22 million international guests. In marking this achievement, GKL highlighted its substantial contribution of KRW 740 billion (about USD 531 million) to South Korea’s Tourism Promotion and Development Fund, underscoring its standing as a key player in the nation's tourism outreach efforts.
GKL’s funding has helped fuel a range of domestic tourism initiatives, from infrastructure development and marketing campaigns to welfare programs supporting underserved communities. The company, a subsidiary of the Korea Tourism Organization—under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism—operates two Seven Luck casinos in Seoul (one in Gangnam) and another in Busan. These venues not only drive direct economic activity but also serve as vital touchpoints that connect international tourists with South Korea’s broader cultural and hospitality offerings.
GKL celebrated its anniversary with a special ceremony held on September 5 at the Seven Luck Gangnam COEX branch, drawing around 150 employees and executives. From a financial standpoint, the company displayed robust growth: its second-quarter net profit reached KRW 16.96 billion, marking a 5.3% sequential gain and a near 50% year-over-year surge. Moreover, for the first eight months of 2025, aggregate casino sales climbed 12.2% year-on-year, totaling KRW 283.93 billion—reflecting solid momentum and confidence heading into the remainder of the year.
