From 1 December 2025, Crown Perth will require all patrons wishing to play electronic gaming machines (EGMs) to use a personalised membership or player card — i.e., a “carded play” system — marking a major shift in its gaming operations.

Under this system, each card will be linked to a real-identity membership account wherein the player must set loss and time limits to activate EGM play. The reforms aim to enforce responsible gambling: for example, playing is capped to a maximum of 12 hours in any 24-hour period and 28 hours in any seven-day span, and a mandatory break after three hours of continuous play is required.

This move follows key recommendations from the Perth Casino Royal Commission and subsequent governmental directions. The Western Australian Government approved the requirement for a full card-based scheme, with pre-commitment of time/loss limits and operator tracking, to be implemented by the deadline of 1 December 2025.

Crown’s own website indicates that from end-November the casino’s membership system will require photo ID verification, updating contact details, and the setting of time & loss limits so that from the official start date no EGM play is permissible without the valid membership card.
