The Macau-licensed operator SJM Resorts has announced that its satellite venue Casino Casa Real will cease operations on 21 November 2025, marking another step in the phasing-out of satellite casinos in Macau under regulatory reform.
This closure comes amid the broader policy from the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) and the Macau SAR government mandating that all 11 remaining “satellite casinos” must terminate operations by the end of 2025. SJM’s decision is in line with commercial considerations and regulatory requirements, and it will leave the group with only five remaining satellite casinos in operation.
SJM has committed to honouring all customer entitlements at Casa Real upon closure and to redeploy its gaming assets and employees to other properties. This mirrors the process outlined in prior satellite casino shutdowns (such as Casino Grandview). For staff directly employed by SJM, reassignment is to be guaranteed; for other staff, priority hiring into the group has been promised.
The move underscores a structural shift in Macau’s gambling landscape: satellite casinos are being phased out in favour of integrated resorts or casinos directly managed by concessionaires, aligning with amendments in Macau’s gaming law (Law 7/2022) that require greater operational control and transparency. As such, the closure of Casino Casa Real is not only a business decision by SJM but a reflection of the regulatory trajectory of Macau’s gaming sector.
